This award recognizes the enduring excellence of nationally significant architecture, such as landmark buildings in the historical context of Canadian Architecture.

The Museum of Anthropology at UBC

Vancouver, BC | 1971-76Architect: Arthur Erickson Architects
Museum of Anthropology, U.B.C.
Vancouver, BC | 1971-76Architect: Arthur Erickson Architects
The building aptly captures both the landscape of the West Coast and the spirit of the First Nations People...Arthur Erickson has created many poignant buildings in Canada, but none capture the Canadian identity as powerfully as the UBC Museum of Anthropology, which sits proudly as the Pantheon of the West Coast Spirit, more so the spirit of Canadian architecture.

Robson Square
Vancouver, BC | 1973-1983Architect: Arthur Erickson Architects
Robson Square is a modern landmark in the City of Vancouver, a unique civic complex three blocks long, a masterwork by Arthur Erickson conceived and designed as a single entity. It won the prestigious American Society of Landscape Architects President's Award of Excellence in 1979, where the jury commented on the "extraordinary integration of landscape architecture with architecture--consistent and coherent." Envisioned by Arthur Erickson and Cornelia Hahn Oberlander as a "linear urban park, importing nature into the city", this was a bold, contemplative work of urban design.
